The earthquake was the second strongest in Virginia&#8217;s history and was the most widely felt earthquake in U.S. history, being registered all the way in Canada. The reason why is to primarily remind everyone of the potential danger of another quake by showing you the impact it had and to discuss the background information behind it&#8217;s occurrence.<sup style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:600\">Amplification<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Due to the soil of the Atlantic seaboard being stronger and more strengthened by bedrock, the earthquake spread much further to the stress transference and other faults in the area.<sup data-fn=\"f7f2285b-0a16-42cc-a338-499c97427f62\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#f7f2285b-0a16-42cc-a338-499c97427f62\" id=\"f7f2285b-0a16-42cc-a338-499c97427f62-link\">3<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\" last even 3 seconds longer, could have resulted in massive widespread damage to stone buildings and even deaths from falling debris.<sup data-fn=\"170e78cc-f1a6-4e05-b50f-bd9e1efc04b0\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:600\">Aftershocks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Were incredibly unusual due to following past ancient trends, taking place away from the main cluster.<sup data-fn=\"fe04e131-248d-453d-b428-af7e4bb6e842\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#fe04e131-248d-453d-b428-af7e4bb6e842\" id=\"fe04e131-248d-453d-b428-af7e4bb6e842-link\">5<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-container-core-column-is-layout-da384c3e cost<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enormous, many buildings in the area weren&#8217;t built for quakes, so they were blindsided. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mystery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No existing surface level faults in the region, also there&#8217;s no particular reason why the Central Virginia seismic zone is so active, not even mentioning the fact that there&#8217;s anomalous amount of stress orientation that has nothing to do with the seismic activity.
